Conference to focus on recruiting, preparing, and retaining teachers
AUSTIN – Registration opens today for a free one-day conference called Learning Roundtable: Recruiting, Preparing, and Retaining Teachers.
The conference, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 31, is hosted by the State Board of Education and the State Board for Educator Certification.
The event will be held on the fourth floor of the Austin Convention Center, thanks to generous facilities support from the Texas Association of School Administrators Midwinter Conference. The convention center is located at 500 E. Cesar Chavez St.
The keynote speakers will be Doug Lemov, author of Teach Like a Champion, and Peter Dewitt, author of Collaborative Leadership: Six Influences that Matter Most.
The conference will include panel discussions covering:
- Grow your own models for teacher recruitment
- Texas Education Agency resources for teachers
- District-preparation program partnerships
- Diversity in the teaching workforce: attracting and supporting candidates of color
- Supporting teachers early in their career
- Opportunities for growth and development for experienced teachers
