1. Proposed Approval of Innovative Courses
This item recommends approval of innovative courses that do not fall within any of the subject areas of the foundation or enrichment curriculum. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.002(f).

This item presents for second reading and final adoption proposed revisions to 19 TAC Chapter 112, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Science, Subchapter D, Other Science Courses. The proposal would update the course titles for International Baccalaureate (IB) science courses to align with other foundation subject area IB courses. No changes are recommended since approved for first reading. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §§7.102(c)(4), 28.002, and 28.025.

This item presents for first reading and filing authorization proposed amendments to 19 TAC Chapter 74, Curriculum Requirements, Subchapter A, Required Curriculum, §74.2, Description of a Required Elementary Curriculum, and §74.3, Description of a Required Secondary Curriculum, to align the middle school requirements with changes to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for fine arts. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §7.102(c)(4) and §28.002.

This item presents for first reading and filing authorization proposed amendment to 19 TAC Chapter 111, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Mathematics, Subchapter C, High School, §111.43, Mathematical Models with Applications, Adopted 2012 (One-Half to One Credit). The proposal would modify the amount of credit that could be earned for the course and eliminate language requiring a course sequence, which is inconsistent with graduation requirements. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §§7.102(c)(4), 28.002, and 28.025.

This item presents for first reading and filing authorization proposed repeal of 19 TAC Chapter 127, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Career Development, Subchapter A, Middle School, and Subchapter B, High School, and proposed repeal of 19 TAC Chapter 130, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Career and Technical Education, Subchapter A, Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, Subchapter B, Architecture and Construction, Subchapter C, Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications, Subchapter D, Business Management and Administration, Subchapter E, Education and Training, Subchapter F, Finance, Subchapter G, Government and Public Administration, Subchapter H, Health Science, Subchapter I, Hospitality and Tourism, Subchapter J, Human Services, Subchapter K, Information Technology, Subchapter L, Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security, Subchapter M, Manufacturing, Subchapter N, Marketing, Subchapter O, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and Subchapter P, Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics. The proposed repeal would remove the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for career and technical education (CTE) that will be superseded by the new CTE TEKS. The proposal recommends an effective date of the 2017-2018 school year to coincide with the implementation of the revised CTE TEKS. This item provides the opportunity for the committee to discuss proposed amendments to 19 TAC Chapter 74, Curriculum Requirements, Subchapter C, Other Provisions, §74.24, Credit by Examination, and §74.26, Award of Credit, in order to consider revisions to current rules to provide additional support for students in substitute care. Statutory authority is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §§7.102, 25.007, 28.002, 28.023, and 28.025.

7. Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency
This item provides an opportunity for staff to brief committee members on the responses to the Request for Proposals (RFP) that was issued to solicit a test provider for the Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency and for the committee to provide guidance to staff regarding selection of a provider.
