Jan-Feb 2017 Computer Science Resolution
WHEREAS computer science is increasingly important in schools and the work place; and
WHEREAS a course called Advanced Placement Computer Science A introduces students to topics that include problem solving, design strategies, data organization, and the social and ethical implications of computing; and
WHEREAS about 58,100 students across the world took the AP Computer Science A exam to demonstrate the knowledge gained in this course; and
WHEREAS the College Board, which administers the test, confirmed that only 10 students worldwide obtained a perfect score on the exam during the past year; and
WHEREAS Miguel Padilla, a student at the Harmony School of Innovation in Fort Worth, is part of that elite group; and
WHEREAS Miguel Padilla is the only Texas student to earn a perfect score on this exam during the past year;
WHEREAS upon learning of his test results, he gave his AP Computer Science teacher Angelica Garcia a framed copy of the letter notifying him of his perfect score; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the State Board of Education congratulates Miguel Padilla, this bright, hard-working, dedicated, and kind student, for his perfect score on the AP Computer Science A exam; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the State Board of Education also congratulates teacher Angelica Garcia and the Harmony School of Innovation for their work with and support of Miguel Padilla; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Miguel Padilla and school officials and that a copy be included in the permanent records of the State Board of Education.
